Indie’s Questions with Helen Hanson

Name: Helen Hanson

Occupation: Thriller Writer – Fitful blogger

Website: www.HelenHanson.com

Who is your favourite author?

Dr. Seuss made me fall in love with words.

John le Carré made me want to be a novelist.

John Grisham made me think I could.

What is your favourite book? TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY.  John le Carré took the Hollywood image of a spy and dashed it with the brilliant and mundane George Smiley, a man infinitely more intriguing.

What was the first ebook you read? 3 LIES by Helen Hanson.  My husband bought my Kindle to help verify and format my novel.

What is your favourite book cover? The cover of Peter Benchley’s JAWS still gives me the willies.  But I’ll go with Dr. Seuss’ THE 500 HATS OF BARTHOLOMEW CUBBINS.  I even have a nephew named after Bart.

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why? Nancy Drew.  Perpetually youthful, yet she had no real responsibilities other than exploring mysteries.  She had cool friends and cruised around in a slick, blue convertible.  Nancy was smart, capable, and confident. Plus, no one ever took a shot at her.

Who is your favourite author? I have several: Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Thomas Harris, Richard Matheson, and so on.

What is your favourite book? On Writing By: Stephen King

What is the first e-book you read? I honestly don’t remember. It was probably one I was asked to review.

What is your favourite book cover? I’ve seen a lot of beautiful cover art but currently, my favorite is Ursula Bielski’s There’s Something Under the Bed! done by Ian Daniels. Very good artist.

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why? I read a lot of books from various genres. Today, I would choose Dr. Sophie Dunston from Killer Dreams By: Iris Johansen. From such a well known author, this book wasn’t written all that well, but I love the storyline. Sophie is plagued with guilt over creating a drug meant to help people but instead was used for sinister and greedy purposes. She involves herself in a world she isn’t familiar with just to right a wrong. In real life, I don’t think there’s a lot of people who would have done that. She’s a respectable character.

Indie’s Questions with Darcia Helle

Name: Darcia Helle

Occupation: I am an author, a blogger, and a superhero to my dogs.

Website: http://www.DarciaHelle.com or http://www.QuietFuryBooks.com

Who is your favourite author? I have many! Most of my current favorites are indie authors. I’m partial to those who are character-driven in their writing. I like to experience the story, rather than be told one.

What is your favourite book? Again, I have many and all for different reasons. I loved Stephen King’s The Green Mile for the impact it made on me regarding the death penalty. Matthew Scully’s nonfiction book Dominion is exceptional for his early work in making our treatment of animals a mainstream issue. I was enthralled by The Splendor of Antiquity by Cheryl Anne Gardner. Joel Blaine Kirkpatrick’s character Caraliza and his novel of the same title still haunts me and, most recently, I was blown away by Jason McIntyre’s novelette The Night Watch Men.

What was the first e-book you read? I can’t even begin to guess at the answer for this one. I read a lot - around 100 titles per year. The first ebook I read was more than two years ago. It would have been an indie title, though I have no idea which one.

What is your favourite book cover? Tough questions! I’ve seen so many great covers. If I had to be pinned down at this very moment, I’d have to say the cover for Joel Blaine Kirkpatrick’s novel Caraliza. The cover is as haunting as the tale.

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why? I read a lot of suspense/thriller, paranormal, creepy stuff. Most of the characters are in all sorts of trouble. I’m not sure I’d want to be any of them! If I had to pick one, without spending hours in deep thought, I’d pick Lucianna Martel from my novel Hit List. She gets into some jams but things work out for her and I love her character. Is it cheating to pick my own character? :)

Indie’s Questions with Heather Killough-Walden

Name:  Heather Killough-Walden

Who is your favourite author?  There are many I love, but Ray Bradbury greatly inspires me.

What is your favourite book?  Another hard question, but off the top of my head, The Halloween Tree, by Ray Bradbury. I also love Boy’s Life, by Robert R. McCammon and Well Witched by Frances Hardinge.

What was the first e-book you read?  I can’t remember…. Probably one of the Psych or Monk books. I love both shows and read all of the books.

What is your favourite book cover?  I like stark, simple covers such as the cover for Destined by Morgan Rice. Things like that. Not a big fan of busy-ness.

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why?  I would love to be one of the archesses from my own Lost Angels series. Then I could heal people.

Indie’s Questions with Robert W. Walker

Name: Robert W. Walker

Occupation:  Author and Teacher

Website: www.RobertWalkerbooks.com

What is your favourite book? Difficult to say as I have many I love ranging from Lord of the Flies to The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. If I had to choose one book to be stranded with?  I would likely take Alex Haley’s ROOTS or John Jakes’ North and South.

What was the first ebook you read? J.A. Konrath’s AFRAID.

What is your favourite book cover? My son’s a graphic artist and he does all my ebooks. I must select one of his designs — Children of Salem.

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why? Tough question.  I rather love Sherlock Holmes for this one, thank you.

Who is your favourite author? Meg Cabot and Judy Blume

What is your favourite book? Would it be called favoritism to say Ordinary Me by June Sproat?

What was the first ebook you read? Fade by Lisa McMann

What is your favourite book cover? I still think it’s mine, one because it just fits the theme of the book and second because my niece designed it!!

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why? Anyone from a Regency Romance. Although I write YA, I must have been a lady in England in the early 1800’s in a former life.

Indie’s Questions with Christy Leigh Stewart

Name: Christy Leigh Stewart

 Occupation: Writer

 Website: http://christyleighstewart.com

Who is your favourite author? If Joey Comeau and Kresley Cole had a child, that child would be my favorite author.  I want to be torn open wide and have each of my organs kissed.

What is your favourite book? T.A.Z.: The Temporary Autonomous Zone by Hakim Bey

What was the first e-book you read? I can’t recall the first but I am 100% sure it was mm slash.

What is your favourite book cover? One of my own books, Loath Letters. My best friend since childhood did the art for it.

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why? No fictional character has been as mundane as I wish to be.

Indie’s Questions with Stella Deleuze

Name : Stella Deleuze

Occupation: Freelance editor and writer of several genres.

Website: http://wordsbystelladeleuze.blogspot.com

Who is your favourite author? That’s so difficult to say, I think I have to got with Cecila Ahern for chick lit and Italo Calvino for literary fiction. I also loved James Frey, fraud or not, he’s a brilliant writer.

What is your favourite book? Again, really hard to answer. I’ve loved all the Cecila Ahern books. I also loved A Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard as well as Twilight and If On A Winter’s Night a Traveller. I like variety.

What was the first e-book you read? I honestly don’t know. Probably my own to see if it’s correctly formatted.

What is your favourite book cover? I don’t have a favourite. Though I’m visual, I think it really depends on what I’m after. I can tell you though what I really can’t stand, and that’s those romance/erotic covers with half naked people on it. Wouldn’t go near them.

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why? My character Celia. Simply because she’s a lot like me and I’m quite happy with myself. She gets the job, she gets the man, the only thing I wouldn’t want is having her ‘background’. I can’t say more here as it would spoil the plot :-)
