Who is your favourite author? I’ll have to have two; Jane Austen and Mary Renault.

What is your favourite book? That depends on my mood. There’s The Mask of Apollo, set in ancient Greece; the narrator is an actor, Nikeratos, and through his eyes you see the people and events of the time. If I say reading this book made me understand politics, I risk putting you off it – but that’s a measure of what an entertaining and fascinating novel it is. Then there’s Emma; so much more than a romance, a deeply satisfying read. And Mr Knightley is my favourite Austen hero.

What is the first e-book you read? My own book, Replica, to check the formatting. I enjoyed it :o)

What is your favourite book cover? Karen McQuestion’s original monochrome cover for Favorite – it’s a silhouette of a young woman walking through a gate, and it’s just a fabulous image. The new cover is nice, too, with gorgeous colours, but doesn’t hit the spot in the same way for me.

If you could be a character from any book, who would you be and why? I’m tempted to choose a male character, as it would be interesting to be a man and see what it was like. But I think I’d have to pick my heroine from Remix, Caz Tallis. She’s doing a job she loves, restoring rocking horses, in her own workshop/flat in central London; she has a really nice and reliable best friend in James (who’d like to be more than a friend) and a rock star boyfriend, Ric Kealey, edgy and attractive. One reader said she liked the fact that Caz was a happy person; I hadn’t thought about this, but she’s right.
